Popular rapper and singer-songwriter Badshah is currently grabbing headlines after his latest Haryanvi song Tateeree landed him in controversy. The track has sparked debate online, with critics accusing it of featuring objectionable lyrics and visuals. The controversy has now led to legal action, while fellow rapper Santy Sharma has publicly spoken out in Badshah’s defence.

The issue began after the song’s music video was released and drew criticism from some viewers. According to reports, a complaint was filed by a resident of Panchkula, after which Haryana Police registered an FIR on March 6. Authorities also reportedly issued a Look Out Circular against the singer as part of the investigation into the matter.

The controversy has quickly turned into a wider debate on social media, with fans and critics sharing strong opinions about the song and its content.

Santy Sharma reacts to Badshah's song controversy

Amid the criticism, rapper Santy Sharma stepped forward to support Badshah. Taking to Instagram, he said that many listeners may not fully understand how rap music works. According to him, in hip-hop culture, artists often include competitive or exaggerated lines aimed at rivals, and these lyrics are sometimes misunderstood by the audience.

Sharma also pointed out that the process of creating a song and producing its video can involve different teams. He suggested that even major artists may not always be aware of how the final video will look when it is released. Because of this, he felt the backlash against Badshah was unfair and lacked proper understanding of the situation.

While acknowledging that problematic lyrics should be corrected if necessary, Santy further added, "A major drawback to Badshah and other artists emerging in India today is the lack of knowledge among listeners in India about this hip-hop art form. If a lyric in a song is incorrect, the lyrics should be updated or changed, but the way Badshah is being judged without understanding the full story is wrong.
Sorry, if anyone hurted from this post but this is the reality."

Why the song sparked controversy?

The music video for Tateeree became the main reason behind the backlash. Some viewers objected to scenes allegedly showing young girls dressed in school uniforms throwing away their school bags and seemingly running away from their studies. Critics argued that the visuals and lyrics were inappropriate and sent the wrong message.

Adding to the debate, the song is inspired by a well-known Haryanvi folk tune but includes additional lyrics written by Badshah. These new elements in the modern version reportedly triggered public criticism and complaints from some viewers.

Following the complaint, police reportedly asked for the video to be removed from the rapper’s official YouTube channel. The track has also been taken down from several online platforms. Despite the controversy, the music video had already attracted major attention and reportedly crossed millions of views and thousands of comments before it was removed.

Meanwhile, Badshah himself has responded to the controversy with a public apology on his social media handles. The rapper clarified that his intention was never to disrespect the women or children of Haryana. Instead, he said the track was meant to highlight and celebrate the culture of the state.

Calling himself a proud Haryanvi, Badshah expressed regret if the song hurt anyone’s sentiments. He also appealed to people to forgive him, saying he hopes to be seen as a son of the state who never intended harm.
