Badminton star HS Prannoy targets a fresh start in 2021

The 28-year-old admitted that he was scared to travel because of Covid-19.

Badminton player HS Prannoy, who like friends and compatriots Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap, skipped the Denmark Open last month, is looking forward to a fresh start in 2021. During a question and answer session on Instagram recently, the 28-year-old told fans that he was scared to travel because of Covid-19, and said the next time he is likely to play would be “tournaments in January in Asia”.

Not being able to go to Denmark would have been a bittersweet moment for Prannoy, who counts his 2016 Danish odyssey as one of his most embarrassing moments on a badminton court. “At the Denmark Open in 2016, I was waiting for Lee Chong Wei [Malaysian shuttler] and the umpires, but I was at the wrong court. They were waiting for me at another court,” he recalled.

For the moment, Prannoy, who’s back home in Thiruvananthapuram, is happy to be following a fitness routine that has “court training five times a week and off court training six times a week”
