The COVID-19 outbreak has triggered panic and anxiety amongst the people around the world. As the number of coronavirus cases in India hit the 195-mark on Friday, the Government decided to take necessary steps to curb the spread of this highly-contagious virus.

In order to boost the people’s morale, PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Thursday evening, announcing a ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sunday from 7 am to 9 pm.



He urged the citizens to practice self-curfew on Sunday in an effort to curb the spread of the deadly disease. The PM also requested people to come out of their respective homes at 5 pm, and appreciate those working in essential services by clapping and ringing bells.

PM Modi’s initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response from Bollywood celebrities. B-Town and India Inc welcomed the move with open arms and appreciated the Prime Minister for taking the much-needed call.

Anand Mahindra, who has been tracking the coronavirus spread in India closely, sent out a tweet saying that he will be applauding the unsung heroes at 5 pm on Sunday.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw urged her followers to make 'Janata Curfew' a 'resounding success'.


Harsh Goenka felt that PM's speech instilled confidence and brought the nation together.


Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter to applaud people in the essential services who are working in ‘such extenuating circumstances’.

Shah Rukh Khan also took to Twitter to laud Modi's call for a curfew, saying, "It’s imp 2 reduce social interaction 2 minimum. Self Quarantine.The idea of #JanataCurfew on Sunday is a means to this end & we should continue this concept at a personal level as much as we can & more.We need to ‘slow down time’ to arrest the virus spread. Be safe & healthy all."

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi, who is otherwise known for being critical of the PM Modi-government, called the move a ‘master stroke’ to unite all Indians.


Azmi had also shared with her followers that she recently returned from Budapest and will be practicing 'self isolation'.


Actor Akshay Kumar, too, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, and urged the fans to show unity.


‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ actor Anupam Kher praised the PM for the self-curfew.


Actress Anushka Sharma, who is followed by over 20 million people on the micro-blogging site, urged her fans to judiciously follow and adhere to the self-curfew.


Actors Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh appealed to the citizens to practice social distancing and follow the curfew.



Director and producer Karan Johar and actor Varun Dhawan were all-praises for the move too.



Actors Shilpa Shetty and R Madhavan, too, requested their fans to follow guidelines in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
