It seems like 'Adipurush' can't get a breather from controversies!
The ‘Adipurush’ teaser had been heavily trolled on social media ever since its release. Several social media users criticised the sub-par special effects and the poor quality of make-up. Others detected several uncanny similarities between the teaser and several popular sci-fi films and fantasy TV shows.
Now the movie has run into a new controversy. The makers are facing flak for ‘misrepresenting’ Lord Ram, Ravana and Hanuman. The head priest of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya has demanded a ban on the movie.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, the priest Satyendra Das alleged that Lord Ram, Hanuman and Ravana had been wrongly portrayed in the movie. “Making a film is not a crime but they should not be made to create deliberate controversies to hog the limelight," he was quoted as saying to the English daily.
Earlier, the teaser had also been called out for misrepresentation of Hindu deities by Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra. In an interview with PTI, Mishra criticised the costume worn by the characters, and described them as “objectionable”.
“I have seen the trailer of ‘Adipurush’. There are objectionable scenes in it. The dresses and look of Hindu deities as seen in the trailer were not acceptable. Hanuman ji is shown wearing leather, whereas the description (in the scriptures) of the deity's costume is different…,” he was quoted as saying to the news agency. The minister also threatened legal action against the makers if the objectionable scenes were not removed.

The teaser had also been brutally trolled by social media users for blatantly copying iconic scenes from popular sci-fi movies and fantasy TV series. Here are a few examples :
The netizens had a feeling of deja-vu as they saw Saif Ali Khan’s Lankesh swoop down from the sky, riding on a rather grotesque-looking creature. Many social media users felt that the scene was directly lifted from an iconic scene from the ‘Game of Thrones’ franchise, where the antagonist the Night King mounts an ice dragon.
On Tuesday, the Instagram spoof account, Mad Mughal Memes shared a post comparing the scenes from the ‘Adipurush’ teaser to various superhero films and fantasy series. Reacting to the post, one Instagram user commented, ``So they took the best of Game of Thrones and Marvel Cinematic Universe and decided to downgrade it as much as possible.” Sharing the post on Instagram, someone wrote, “How can you copy other films but copy them so bad.”
Vanar Sena Or King Kong Rip-off? The Debate Is Still On!
Ye #वानरसेना hai? Ya Gorilla Gang?I think I accidentally watched the King Kong trailer instead of Adipurush.… https://t.co/eAFOdcG3LN
One of the scenes from the trailer shows a member of the legendary Vanar Sena ( Army of the Apes) charging forward with a menacing growl. Some netizens pointed out that the shot was a scene-by-scene copy of a scene from the 2017 flick ‘Kong: Skull Island’ where King Kong the giant ape lets out a similar war cry before tackling the skull crawlers.
Carbon Copy Of ‘Planet of Apes’?
According to desi film buffs, some of the scenes from the ‘Adipurush’ trailer featuring the Vanar Sena bringing upon their wrath towards the enemy seemed uncannily similar to a scene in the 2011 sci-fi adventure, ‘Rise Of The Planet Of Apes’, where a gorilla crossed the San Francisco bridge in a game of heated pursuit with a human policeman.
