Neena Gupta's blunt response to personal questions
While promoting Chumbak, Neena spoke to CNN-News18 about how she handles questions that cross the line into her personal life. She was asked about her reaction when people ask her questions such as, “When are you getting married?”Neena explained that she does not feel the need to entertain such questions. Recalling how she responds when someone gets too personal, the actress said she asks them why they are concerned about her marriage and points out that her personal choices have nothing to do with them.
She also has a rather direct way of shutting down such conversations. Neena said that she reminds people that she is not dependent on them and questions why they are so interested in whether she is married or not.
How a saree mishap led to Neena Gupta's pregnancy rumours
Neena also opened up about another kind of comment she has faced, speculation about her weight and whether she was pregnant. The actress recalled an incident when she was wearing a saree and adjusted the fabric around her waist. The way the saree folded made the area look slightly bulky. Instead of simply being seen as a normal wardrobe issue, however, the change in her appearance quickly became a topic of speculation.
Neena recalled, "I was wearing a saree earlier, and I adjusted it here like this, and it got a bit bulky around here, near my waist. People were like, ‘At my age, 60, am I pregnant?’"
For Neena, the episode was less about the saree itself and more about the habit of judging someone's body without knowing anything about their circumstances.
Neena Gupta's advice to those facing body-shaming
Rather than allowing such comments to continue, Neena decided to turn the experience into advice for others who face similar questions. She suggested that people who are body-shamed should give an unexpected answer instead of trying to explain themselves. According to Neena, "So I advise people around me, tell them you're pregnant if they body-shame you."
The actress has also shared this advice with people around her. Her approach is intentionally blunt and humorous, but the message behind it is clear: people should not feel pressured to justify changes in their bodies to others.
