The singer revealed that she had expected Polansky to propose around her birthday and was initially wondering why it had not happened. The surprise eventually came during a rock-climbing trip. According to Gaga, the couple climbed to the top and spent some time taking photographs before heading back to their room. During their walk, Polansky asked her if he could ask her an important question before actually proposing.

Gaga explained that his approach was very much in keeping with his personality. He wanted to know whether she was comfortable with him proposing before getting down on one knee. She happily gave him permission, turning the moment into a memorable part of their relationship.
