Ashish Vaid believes that we need to adapt to new methods of doing business in today’s changing environment, otherwise we will be left behind.
On June 27, Ashish Vaid took over the reins as the President of the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC Chamber of Commerce & Industry) from Raj Nair. The Chamber, founded in 1907, has a rich legacy of 112 years of service to business, trade and industry. Rajiv Poddar has been elected as the Vice President. The IMC enjoys a strong infrastructure and has a dedicated secretariat led by DG Ajit Mangrulkar.

The new IMC President has chosen the theme ‘Innovate, Motivate, Consolidate’ for this year. Innovate with new ideas, Motivate to encourage and empower, Consolidate to capitalise on strong foundations and to grow to greater heights. Vaid believes that in today’s changing environment, we need to adapt to new methods of doing business, otherwise we will be left behind. He believes that India is at an exciting phase, with $2.9 trillion GDP and being the fifth largest economy, just a notch below Germany.

With a strong government and a dynamic leader in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is poised to take a quantum jump and head towards a $10 trillion economy. In Ease Of Doing Business (EODB), we are ranked at No. 77 in the world. With the government upbeat on greater FDI and unshackling the maze of laws, rules and regulations, we are hopeful that soon we will be in the top 50. IMC will continue its legacy of supporting business trade and industry to ensure India becomes economically strong and a favoured destination for foreign investors and manufacturing. This will lead to greater employment and a stronger India.
