‘Are you watching Fahadh Faasil movies?’: Ace director Rajamouli was surprised at his relative's unexpected question

Ace director SS Rajamouli’s has been an admirer of Fahadh Faasil for years but six years aso a surprising conversation with a relative made the filmmaker realise just the Malayalam star’s popularity. Speaking at the pre-release event of Don’t Trouble The Trouble, Rajamouli recalled how he has followed Fahadh’s work for years and watched many of his films but he was of the idea that Fahadh Faasil's appeal was largely restricted to a particular, perhaps more urban or niche audience.

That perception changed around six years ago when Rajamouli wife’s cousin, a woman from a small town in Kerala, visited him in Hyderabad. To Rajamouli’s surprise, she asked him whether he had been watching Fahadh Faasil’s films, catching the filmmaker off guard.

For Rajamouli, the exchange was significant because the woman was not someone he expected to be closely following Fahadh’s films closely. Her interest suggested that Fahadh’s popularity extended well beyond the audience Rajamouli had initially imagined.


“She asked me, ‘Are you watching Fahadh Faasil’s films?'" the ace director was quoted as saying at the pre-release event of Don't Trouble The Trouble, according to Onmanorama. “I understood that his reach was not limited to an elite audience. It was much more widespread,” he said.

From that point, Rajamouli began wondering when he would get an opportunity to bring Fahadh into Telugu cinema. That possibility eventually materialised with Fahadh Faasil-starrer Don’t Trouble The Trouble, the upcoming fantasy entertainer directed by his nephew Shashank Yeleti.

The film also has a another personal connection for Rajamouli, with his son S S Karthikeya serving as one of its producers.

The film has Fahadh Faasil and Ssara Palekar in the lead roles and is written and directed by Shashank Yeleti, with Hamza Ali as co-writer. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 2, available in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada.

About Don’t Trouble The Trouble

The fantasy entertainer revolves around Suri, a small-time crook who finds himself in an unexpected situation after kidnapping a young girl named Divya. Unaware that she possesses supernatural abilities, Suri becomes entangled in her belief that he is a magician capable of helping reunite her with her parents.

What begins as a kidnapping gradually turns into an unlikely journey involving the two characters. The film promises a mix of fantasy, mystery, adventure and emotion, built around the unusual relationship between the two central characters.


The project has also attracted attention because of the prominent names associated with it. Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal and Balakrishna have lent their voices for the Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu versions of the film’s trailers respectively.

Music for the film has been composed by Kaala Bhairava.
