Tollywood star Debashree Roy’s mother Arati passed away on November 8, after a prolonged battle with ill health. She was 92. According to reports, Roy passed away peacefully, in the presence of her three daughters Debashree, Purnima and Krishna.

An emotional Roy told Anandabazar Patrika, “ I was not aware when she died. (Arati Devi had been living with Roy’s elder sister for the past few months).” The ‘Dadar Kirti’ star also acknowledged how pivoted her mother had been in shaping my career. “Ma (mother) encouraged me to be an actress. She had no other illness other than some age-related ailments. But in the end, we were able to be with her during her last moments. She passed away peacefully surrounded by us three. For that, I will never not be grateful to the All Mighty,” confessed an unconsolable Roy.

Arati Devi suffered some serious injuries in August 2022. Roy had then informed Anandabazar, that her mother was residing at her elder daughter’s residence. “She has fallen down and injured her forehead. She had lost a lot of blood.”

Roy was very close to her mother. Arati Devi also had an enormous contribution in making her daughter one of the most sought-after stars in Tollywood. A veteran danseuse, Arati Devi had been her dance guru and later on helped her daughter cement her position in the tinsel town. In her early years, Roy used to be accompanied by her mother as she traveled to the studios. During an appearance on a TV show hosted by theatre personality Debshankar Haldar, the actor revealed how her mother took her to shoots and helped her with dance costumes and makeup. “My mother is everything, “ she said on the show.

Arati Devi was also related to Bollywood star Rani Mukerji, (who is the daughter of her sister Krishna). According to reports, the ‘Bunty Aur Bubli’ star won’t be able to attend the last rites of her grandmother due to physical illness.
