'Heavens have earned an angel': Rani Mukerji says Bappi Lahiri's demise is a personal loss for her family

Music legend Bappi Lahiri's sudden demise at the age of 69 has been a shock to many.

Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, who shared a close bond with the singer, revealed that it is a personal loss for her family.

The 43-year-old told news agency ANI that her mother, Krishna Mukherjee, and Lahiri were childhood friends from their Kolkata days. She also said that her mother was devastated by the news of the music composer's passing.


The 'Bunty Aur Babli' star shared that she has a lot of memories with the late singer from her childhood, and all those are rushing back to her. "We will miss him dearly. His smiling face and kind personality will always be a happy memory," she was quoted saying by ANI.

The actress said that 'Bappi uncle' will continue to be the most-iconic musical personality of Indian cinema.

She said, "India has lost one of her precious gems. His music was legendary. His versatility as a composer was unmatched. A truly self-made man, a great son to his parents, a wonderful husband and a great dad."

Mukerjee said she is praying for the late musician's family. "I pray that Chitrani Aunty, Rema, Bappa and the entire Lahiri family find the strength to go through this loss. It's too sad, he went too soon. Bappi uncle rest in peace, the heavens have earned an angel today," she added.

Earlier on Wednesday after the news broke, Mukerji's actress-cousin Kajol, along with her mother-actor Tanuja, uncle Deb Mukerji and cousin Sharbani Mukherjee, had visited the Lahiri family at their Juhu home to pay their condolences.

Before leaving, Kajol penned an emotional note in the memory of Lahiri. She said the Disco King was a beautiful and happy soul. "Today we lost the disco king... End of an Era. May your soul rest in peace," she wrote.


Lahiri had developed a chest infection and was treated for the same earlier this year. He was discharged from Mumbai's CritiCare Hospital on February 15. However, his condition worsened and was brought back to the hospital.

The singer's cremation will take place on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have beefed up security outside the Lahiri residence.
