An Apple Watch Series 7 user recently claimed that his smartwatch caught fire due to overheating issues with the device before exploding.

As per a report in 9to5Mac, the user was wearing his Apple Watch when he noticed the temperature of the smartwatch exceeding its normal range. Suspicious of the erratic behaviour, the user flipped the Apple Watch Series 7 and was shocked to see that the device had cracked.

The WatchOS then started flashing a warning about the device needing to immediately shut down due to its rising temperature. The report further revealed that the person was at their house when the incident occurred.

After witnessing this, the user immediately got in touch with Apple Support and explained the entire scenario. Apple requested the user to not touch the smartwatch until he heard back from the Cupertino-based tech giant.

The next day, the person found that his Apple Watch was getting hotter and the situation had only escalated. The temperature of the watch was so bad that it shattered Apple Watch's display glass.

When the user picked up the Apple Watch to click pictures to send to the tech giant, the smartwatch started making "crackling sounds" before it exploded.

As per the report, the Apple Watch burnt the user's couch. Scarred by the incident, he also visited the emergency room to get a health check-up done.

“He also ended up visiting the emergency room because of lead poisoning concerns, but it’s important to remember the Apple Watch does not actually contain nearly enough lead to actually cause poisoning. He was simply concerned about it,” the report said.

Apple is currently investigating the matter after the tech giant was alerted about the incident. The report further suggests that Apple had asked the user to not go public with the overheating issue and keep it to himself.
