Anupam Kher is set to travel to the USA and Canada for two months for his play Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane. Before leaving, the actor decided to spend some time with his mother and make her laugh. What began as a simple goodbye in Kashmiri soon turned into a nostalgic conversation about childhood, cousins and a strangely memorable moustache. Sharing the moment on X, Kher reflected on family, memories, laughter and why having his mother around makes a house feel like home.

Anupam Kher's goodbye with his mother takes an unexpected turn

Anupam Kher took to X and shared a glimpse of his conversation with his mother before leaving for his two-month trip to the USA and Canada. He said he wanted to bid her goodbye while keeping the mood light and making her laugh. However, as Kher pointed out, conversations with one's mother can go anywhere, especially when they happen in Kashmiri.

The conversation initially moved towards his mother's childhood and her cousins. Kher reflected that as people grow older, they may find themselves returning more often to the corridors of their childhood because those memories neither age nor lose their colour.

How a moustache entered the conversation

The nostalgic discussion then took a completely unexpected turn. Kher recalled how the conversation suddenly reached the subject of his brother, Raju's dyed moustache. According to the actor, Raju had not washed the moustache properly after colouring it, making it look like Charlie Chaplin's distinctive black moustache. While his sister-in-law was busy defending Raju, Kher's mother was trying to follow what he was saying. Meanwhile, Kher found himself trying to understand what the actual subject of the family conversation was.

The actor's description captured the chaotic humour of an ordinary family conversation, where several topics, explanations, memories and jokes can unfold at the same time.

Anupam Kher finds beauty in ordinary family moments

For Kher, the amusing conversation represented something much deeper about family life. He described the beauty of an ordinary home as the presence of several conversations, different voices, explanations, laughter, old memories and plenty of affection happening together. The moment also carried an emotional side for the actor. As he prepares to leave his mother for an extended period, Kher admitted that he feels concerned about her, particularly because she has been losing weight.

Yet, watching her laugh and listening to her speak gives him another perspective. Despite life's worries, he said, life can still feel beautiful. Kher's post ultimately centred on the importance of having his mother around. Reflecting on their conversation, he said that her presence is what makes a house a home.

Netizens react

Netizens were touched Anupam Kher's sweet gesture for his mother and many were left laughing with the detour in the conversation. A user wrote, "Heaps of best wishes for your play... Happy journey Anupam sir..... You will stay far from India... but not from our hearts." One said, "he precious moments you share with your mother and the way you express them are deeply touching. Wishing you all the very best for your play ‘Jaane Pehchane Anjaane’ and its USA & Canada tour!"

Another commented, "What a beautiful glimpse of love, laughter, and the warmth of home. A mother’s presence truly makes even the most ordinary moments unforgettable. May your journey to America and Canada be wonderful, and may Mom stay healthy, happy, and smiling always. God bless her with strength and a long, beautiful life." One added, "Mom conversations: starts with childhood memories, takes a detour through Raju’s mustache, and somehow becomes a beautiful life lesson. That’s family in one conversation!"
