The Mahindra Group Chairman took to Twitter to share that he had met the Director of Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), on Thursday to discuss his 'University Project'.
Thrilled to be in the presence of Wangchuk, the business tycoon called the 55-year-old a 'true innovator' and a 'national asset'.
The 66-year-old billionaire also reminded everyone that the ‘Phunsuk Wangdu’ character, played by perfectionist-actor Aamir Khan, in Rajkumar Hirani's '3 Idiots' was inspired by the engineer-environmentalist. He even said that the role played by Khan does justice to his real persona.
Wangchuk and Mahindra were joined by Gitanjali JB, co-founder, CEO and Dean at HIAL.

According to a 2018 report by 'The Times Of India', Wangchuk had said that he wanted to set up an alternative university in Ladakh. The goal of this unique institution was to be self-sustainable and provide free higher education to its students of the city, focusing on real-life learnings.
Describing the University, the education reformist said that learnings of 25 years will be used to build it. His quote read, “It will be a university built with the earth and powered by the sun and all the learnings of the past 25 years will be used in building it. It will be a university where people will get hands-on experience, where the school of business will run real-life companies, the school of tourism will run high-end hotels and simple home stays while the school of education will run innovative schools. The revenue from these will sustain the university where the students will get free higher education.”
