Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan had a question for ChatGPT regarding the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan sparked discussion among football fans after sharing a World Cup-related query that led him to seek help from artificial intelligence. The actor revealed that he used ChatGPT to verify a claim he had heard about Morocco's national football team competing at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Bachchan said someone had told him that none of the players in Morocco's World Cup squad was born in the North African nation. Curious about the claim, the actor decided to check its accuracy through AI. Sharing the result of his search, Bachchan wrote that ChatGPT informed him the statement was “not entirely true.”

The discussion comes at a time when Morocco's squad has drawn attention for the large number of players who were born outside the country but chose to represent their ancestral homeland on the international stage. Modern football has increasingly seen national teams benefit from players who are part of global diasporas and are eligible to play through family heritage.

Morocco team players

Morocco's World Cup squad is one such example. A significant portion of the team's players were born in countries including France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Canada. Several footballers developed their careers in European academies before deciding to represent Morocco in international competitions.

One of the most talked-about examples is midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The young player, regarded as one of the emerging talents of the tournament, was born in France and represented French youth teams before switching allegiance to Morocco shortly before the World Cup. His performances have attracted attention, particularly after impressive displays during the tournament.

Despite the number of foreign-born players in the squad, the claim that none of Morocco's footballers were born in Morocco is incorrect. The team includes players born both inside and outside the country, reflecting the diverse backgrounds that characterise many modern national football teams.

Morocco's quarter-final clash against France generated additional interest because several members of the Moroccan squad share strong personal and cultural connections with European nations. According to The New York Times, among Morocco’s 26-member World Cup squad, 19 players were born outside the North African country.

The World Cup itself has delivered several memorable moments. France advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Morocco 2-0 in a high-profile quarter-final encounter. Captain Kylian Mbappe played a decisive role in the victory, scoring one of the goals as France continued its pursuit of another World Cup title.

Mbappe's strike added to an impressive tournament tally and further strengthened his reputation as one of the leading players in world football. France's victory kept alive the team's hopes of reaching yet another World Cup final, while Morocco's campaign earned praise for its performances against some of the strongest teams in the competition.

Apart from his World Cup observations, Bachchan mentioned that he had been occupied with work throughout the day. In a brief blog update, he said he had been shooting since morning before attending to office-related tasks and preparing to rest.

On the professional front, Bachchan continues to stay busy with upcoming film projects, including the sequel to “Kalki 2898 AD.” However, for football fans, it was his World Cup fact-checking exercise that grabbed attention, showing how even one of India's biggest stars can turn to AI when curiosity strikes during the world's biggest football tournament.
