Aman was a heartthrob in the 1970s
Zeenat Aman was not just one of the highest paid Bollywood stars in the 1970s, she was also one of the earliest fitness icons in Indian pop culture. Aman was known for her bold characters who did not fit existing norms in films such as Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Manoranjan, Pukaar, Don etc as well as her perfect ten, sculpted physique. In a 2025 Instagram post, the evergreen diva outlined what she ate in a day for her timeless looks at 74.

The diva admitted that despite being a foodie, she did not know how to cook except make a boiled egg at the kitchen. Coming to her diet, she said she adhered to her mother’s motto - of eating small and eating fresh.

Her day begins with a warm cup of plain black tea, paired with a small serving of almonds that have been soaked overnight and carefully peeled. This uncomplicated morning ritual provides a gentle energy boost while supplying healthy fats, protein, and essential nutrients to kick-start the day. It is a nourishing habit that has remained a consistent part of the daily routine.

Breakfast has evolved over the years into a balanced combination of wholesome ingredients. A regular choice is toasted sourdough bread layered with creamy mashed avocado and topped with generous cubes of cheddar cheese. This meal offers a satisfying blend of fibre, healthy fats, and protein, keeping hunger at bay for several hours. On days when there is a craving for familiar Indian flavours, the menu changes to traditional dishes such as a savoury gram flour chilla or a serving of lightly seasoned poha. These home-style options provide comfort while maintaining a nutritious balance.

The midday meal is the most substantial meal of the day and focuses on simple, home-cooked food rather than elaborate recipes. A typical lunch consists of lentils, seasonal vegetables, fresh rotis, and a few complementary side dishes. One enjoyable spread features a tangy khatti dal prepared with a distinctive sour flavour, potatoes and green peas cooked in an aromatic herb-based masala, smoky paneer tikka, and freshly prepared tomato chutney that adds a burst of freshness to every bite. Despite the variety, the emphasis remains on wholesome ingredients, balanced nutrition, and satisfying flavours instead of excessive richness.

As the afternoon progresses, an evening snack becomes an important part of the daily schedule. Around five o'clock, a trusted household helper prepares a bowl of roasted makhana seasoned with mild spices. The crisp texture and light seasoning make it an enjoyable snack that satisfies cravings without feeling heavy. Rich in nutrients and low in calories, fox nuts offer a healthier alternative to processed snacks while still delivering plenty of crunch and flavour.

The highlight of the daily food routine, however, comes with dessert. Although sugar consumption is kept under control through mindful eating, there is no intention of giving up sweet treats entirely. Instead, indulgence is enjoyed in moderation. A favourite choice is a rich, velvety chocolate with a smooth texture that melts effortlessly, making it an irresistible treat. While finishing an entire box in one sitting is certainly tempting, self-discipline usually prevails, limiting the serving to just two pieces at a time. This balanced approach allows enjoyment of favourite foods without compromising overall health and nutrition.
