Yash's much-awaited Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-ups is currently running in theatres. The Kannada gangster drama, released on August 26, opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film stars Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles. As a section of moviegoers continues to criticise the film, an old video of Geetu Mohandas has resurfaced online and is now drawing considerable attention.

The clip has emerged at a time when Toxic is being discussed widely on social media, with viewers sharing memes, reviews and opinions about the film. While some have criticised its storytelling and execution, others have defended the director's creative choices. Geetu's old comments about her filmmaking process have now added more fuel to the online conversation.

Geetu Mohandas' old video resurfaces

In the video doing the rounds on social media, Geetu Mohandas talks about how her films evolve during the filmmaking process. She explains that what she initially writes on paper does not necessarily remain unchanged by the time the film reaches the screen.


Geetu told Film Companion in 2021, "I have no idea in my writing where I’m going. It can get crazy when you have more than one person collaborating with you on a script. Because they can just throw stones and walk away. My process is quite crazy, erratic, and I arrive at it later. It’s not something I know like, okay, this is the beginning, this is the middle, this is the end. It doesn’t work like that for me."



She also recalls telling producers about her approach before working with them. According to Geetu, she makes it clear to them that, "So, I think I write something, I shoot something else, I edit something else, and then the film is out. Then I’m happy. I never stick to the script. For my next film, I’m meeting producers. It’s the one thing I keep telling them. You’re not gonna get what you’re reading."

The statement has now attracted fresh attention because it has resurfaced shortly after the release of Toxic.

Netizens connect Geetu's comments to Toxic

The old clip quickly became part of the ongoing social media discussion around Toxic. Several users linked Geetu's comments about changing her script to their own criticism of the film.

One X user suggested that KVN Productions should have taken Geetu's comments as a warning before backing the project. KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP have produced the film.



Another user mocked the film by calling it Toxic: The Torture and jokingly described it as the director's cut. The comments reflect the sharp criticism that the film has faced from a section of viewers since its theatrical release.

Some users also felt that Geetu's approach could explain why they found the final film lacking in clarity. One social media user argued that not having a fixed vision throughout the filmmaking process could result in an inconsistent film. Another questioned why the director would openly highlight an approach that, in their view, could contribute to an unfocused final product.
