He’s the only son of one of the richest Bollywood stars, yet he refuses to splurge a fortune on designer clothes. In an interview, tinseltown’s ‘Khiladi’ Akshay Kumar proudly revealed how his son Aarav chose to be sustainable in his everyday life, making a conscious effort to be mindful of his lifestyle choices. In an episode of Pitch To Get Rich, the ‘Namastey London’ star said his son tended to lean more towards thrift fashion and had inspired his parents – Akshay and his wife Twinkle – to be more conscious in their day-to-day living.

Calling his son a “sustainable brand ambassador", the superstar said his son only shops at thrift stores. He admitted he had tried to persuade his son to purchase more expensive goods: “I told him, 'Beta, your father can buy so many things, whatever you want,' but he was determined to shop exclusively from thrift shops, and he eventually took me to one.”

Akshay said he eventually bought a lot of things from thrift stores and praised Gen Z’s more conscious spending habits and shopping choices.


In a recent appearance on the podcast Unplugged, Shubahankar, the Welcome actor, stated that his son is not interested in Bollywood and has a job that pays him just Rs 4,500 per month currently. He revealed that his son wanted to be in the fashion industry. He has been visiting villages to learn about fashion, fabric, and prints.

A Self-Sufficient Young Man

Akshay remembered how Aarav chose to leave home at just fifteen years old in order to study abroad.↻ The actor confessed that at first he was against his son leaving so young, but he came to respect the decision, as he himself had departed home at fourteen to follow his aspirations.

Now, Aarav is studying at a university in London, a choice made entirely out of his own resolve and wish to live on his own terms. Akshay spoke with pride about Aarav, calling him a down-to-earth and dependable young man who prizes practicality over luxury.

Contrary to the typical picture of a celebrity's child, Aarav likes to take care of his everyday tasks himself—be it cooking, cleaning, or washing his clothes. He consciously steers clear of needless luxury, choosing inexpensive clothing instead of buying designer brands. As a matter of fact, he regularly shops at thrift stores, convinced that thoughtful purchases help cut down on waste.

“He does his own laundry, he is a good cook, he does the utensils, and he doesn’t even want to buy expensive clothes. In fact, he goes to a second-hand store, Thrifty, to buy clothes because he doesn’t believe in wastage," the superstar revealed proudly.
