Actress. Producer. But first, she chose herself. How Chitrangda Singh's life and success changed from just one question

Growing up as an army kid meant movement was constant. Cities changed every few years, from Bareilly to Meerut to Mau, and stability came not from a fixed home but from routine and structure. Life revolved around cantonments, discipline, and clearly defined boundaries. Desire was always secondary to duty. Raised in an all-girls school and college, Chitrangda described herself as introverted and sheltered, someone who was uncomfortable being seen or noticed. Attention did not excite her; it unsettled her.

At home, she was surrounded by protection. Her father served in the army, her elder brother was fiercely watchful, and rules formed a safety net around her. During her college years in Delhi, a city she found unsafe, she tried her best to blend in rather than stand out. Khadi kurtas became her armour, a way to stay invisible and protected in a space that felt overwhelming. Cinema was nowhere on her horizon. In fact, she wanted to become a nutritionist.
Modelling and acting
Modelling entered her life accidentally, never as a career plan, just as a way to earn some extra money. She auditioned for a talc powder advertisement and did not even get selected. It felt like another forgettable moment. Except it wasn’t. That audition tape somehow reached Gulzar, who saw something others had missed. He called her for a music video, Sunset Point, marking her first onscreen appearance. Her very first director turned out to be Gulzar himself, a twist she still finds hard to believe. What entered her life quietly that day would soon change everything. From the very beginning, Chitrangda made unconventional choices. She gravitated towards layered characters, complex stories, and roles that carried risk. Predictability never appealed to her. When she moved to Bombay, something within her began to change. The city felt different. Safer. Freer. She saw women walking confidently, claiming space, living on their own terms. Slowly, she began doing the same.
Today, Chitrangda Singh acts, produces, and works across films and OTT platforms, choosing projects that align with her voice. Chitrangda Singh is known for her work across films and series spanning multiple genres. Her notable film appearances include the crime thriller Yeh Saali Zindagi, romantic comedies Desi Boyz and I, Me Aur Main, the financial thriller Baazaar, crime drama Bob Biswas, and the mystery thriller Gaslight. She made her debut as a producer with the sports drama Soorma.
On the digital front, she has appeared in Modern Love Mumbai and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. Singh was married to golfer Jyoti Randhawa from 2001 to 2014, with the couple formally divorcing in April 2015. She will next be seen in Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan.
