A touch of 'Harry Potter' at Unacademy: CEO Gaurav Munjal says Hogwarts inspired company culture

The co-founder and employees are all sorted into houses from Rowling's fantasy world.

Co-founder and CEO Gaurav Munjal himself has been 'sorted' into Gryffindor.

If you’re looking to leave the Muggle world for a spell, take a look at Unacademy or should we say Sorting Hat Technologies Pvt Ltd. That’s the name the company was registered under in 2015, according to cofounder and CEO Gaurav Munjal, who is quite proud of the company’s house culture inspired by the famous Harry Potter books.

Turns out, new employees are sorted into Hogwarts houses to compete for an annual House trophy across in-house tournaments and off-sites. At one such off-site, employees competed for a Quidditch trophy. “There is a life apart from work, where everybody gets together,” Munjal says.

And it’s not only the employees enjoying the house culture. Each of the co-founders have also been sorted, basis their initials — Gaurav Gryffindor, Sachin Slytherin, Hemesh Hufflepuff and Roman Ravenclaw.
