Cricket has a special status in India, what with multiple specialty venues and much more moolah.

Vita Dani, the coowner of football club Chennaiyin FC, feels that sports federations in India should take a cue from Japan where the same stadium is used for different sports, and give other sports a fighting chance.

"In Japan, they have this fantastic system where the same stadium caters to three or four sports in a day. The same arena is a basketball court for four hours, then a judo arena for three hours and a taekwondo arena for another three hours. If we learn to do the same in India, it would do so much better for other sports," she said.
