In line with the festive spirit of Navratri, Benglaluru-based Gallery G is organising the ‘9 Gems’ exhibition that includes work created by upcoming artists from The Bengal School of Art. Curated by Sujatha Bandi Jayadev and Kallol Bose, the month-long exhibition will conclude on October 31.

The nine days of Dussehra celebration is traditionally celebrated as the victory of Lord Rama over Ravan, while in Kolkata, the focus is Goddess Durga slaying the demon Mahishasura. In the exhibition, therefore, each artist has attempted to recreate her own impression of Durga – the Godddess with a benign face, as a saviour with her Trishul and in her rudra (angry) avatar after slaying the demon.

According to Gitanjali Maini, founder, Gallery G, each artwork tells a different story. “The nine days of Maha Puja or Navratri is an explosion of colours, bright vermillion, stunning images of Goddess Durga and vibrant scenes from Bengal’s pandal and festive moments, all of which will be reflected in the exhibition.”
