23,000 lives is all set to release on OTT.
Inspired by an extraordinary true story of courage and compassion, 23,000 Lives is set to arrive on OTT this month. The German drama tells the remarkable journey of a group of young volunteers who refused to remain bystanders as thousands of migrants risked their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea. Their determination to make a difference eventually led to the rescue of more than 23,000 people, making the film one of the most anticipated international releases of the season.

When and where to watch 23,000 Lives online

23,000 Lives will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 17, 2026.

What is 23,000 Lives about?

The film is inspired by the real-life humanitarian organisation Youth to the Rescue, also known as Jugend Rettet. It follows a group of young people who could no longer ignore the growing number of deaths in the Mediterranean Sea as migrants attempted to reach Europe.

Despite having no previous experience in sea rescue, the group launched a crowdfunding campaign, purchased an old ship and set out on a mission to save lives. Their efforts ultimately helped rescue more than 23,000 people, proving how determination and humanity can create meaningful change.

As the mission grows, the volunteers are forced to confront difficult moral questions that test their beliefs, relationships and understanding of justice. What begins as an inspiring act of compassion gradually evolves into a complex journey filled with ethical dilemmas and personal sacrifices.
