RBI urges PSU banks to hire from rural India

RBI urges PSU banks to hire people from rural India as well rather than hiring only from campus.

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India ( RBI) is of the view that banks should not look at only campus recruitment to hire employees.

"Why should banks rush to recruiter from campus. None of us would get a job if recruitment was from campus. Banks must give opportunity to everybody. I am not sure however many from campus will have empathy for the poor of the poorest, RBI deputy governor, K C Chakrabarty said

He indicated that banks should look at hiring across the country and be fair to those in hinterland. This is required in context of financial inclusion initiative taken by banks and RBI jointly to provide formal banking to all in rural India. Those hired from rural India would be close to ground realities compared to others.

Meanwhile, M Balachandran, director IBPS said that the IBPS has helped PSU banks fill 48,000 vacancies in the fiscal year 2010-11 and he expect similar or higher level of recruitment this year as level.
