The report finds that mid-sized SaaS companies (201–1,800 employees) form the backbone of the ecosystem, accounting for 58% of firms analysed, while half of the companies operate with multi-location offices—indicating increasing scale and operational maturity.
The current hiring pattern signals a shift towards sustainable, outcome-led growth, the study found. Rather than aggressive headcount expansion, SaaS firms are prioritising productivity, high-impact roles, and long-term capability building—positioning the sector for stable growth as global SaaS demand continues to expand.
Functionally, Software Engineering and Development roles dominate the hiring demand, accounting for 38% of total open positions, emphasising continued investment in product innovation, cloud platforms, and scalable architectures. Sales and Business Development (13%) and Customer Success and Support (8%) open positions highlight a strong focus on customer acquisition, retention, and monetisation.
He added: “Rather than unfocused expansion, companies are prioritising high-impact engineering, product and customer-facing roles that directly support innovation and revenue, reflecting confidence in long-term demand. This disciplined hiring approach strengthens India’s SaaS talent foundation and reinforces the nation’s role as a key engine of digital and SaaS-led growth,”
Geographically, SaaS talent is concentrated in Chennai (34% of the talent base), followed by Bengaluru (21%) and Delhi NCR (20%). Tier-II cities are gradually gaining relevance, contributing nearly 4% of overall SaaS talent, reflecting the early decentralisation of hiring beyond traditional tech hubs.
However, a comparison of offices and the number of employees across India’s major SaaS hubs reveals that Bengaluru leads in the number of offices, accounting for 27% of locations, but has a slightly lower employee share at 21%, indicating more distributed or smaller teams. Delhi NCR shows a balanced presence, with offices (21%) closely matching its employee base (20%). Mumbai (14%) and Hyderabad (11%) have more offices relative to their employee concentration (8% for both), suggesting smaller office teams or limited scaling.
Overall, this indicates that while Tier-I cities dominate office networks, talent density is highest in select hubs like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Delhi NCR pointing to emerging centralisation of skilled SaaS professionals.
