India’s online smartphone market grew 7% year-on-year in 2020 to its highest-ever share of 45%, during the pandemic-hit year which witnessed a decline in overall shipments, according to Counterpoint Research Insights India Smartphone Channel Analysis 2020 report.

While Flipkart held the top position with a 48% share, Amazon was the fastest-growing online platform with a year-on-year growth of 34%.

Amazon led the market in the Rs 15,000 and above price bands while Flipkart led the market in sub-Rs 15,000 price bands.


The sales in online channels were led by China’s Xiaomi, which had a 40% share, followed by Samsung (19%), Realme (19%), Vivo (4%), OnePlus (4%) and other brands (14%) respectively.

OnePlus was the top online premium smartphone brand on Amazon, capturing the fifth position in the overall online smartphone market.
