Nirma University plans new avatar for Entrepreneurship Centre
Nirma Univeristy to inculcate entrepreneurship trait amongst its students, to set up Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
AHMEDABAD: Nirma University will establish a centre for entrepreneurship and innovation in academic session 2014-15, which will be open to all students.
University's Institute of Management director Somayajulu Garimella said, "We have decided to revive the incubation centre, but in a different format."
According to him, the new set-up mainly comprise practical and hands-on training, along with a course on entrepreneurship. It would also have mentoring programme, wherein alumni running their own companies and other successful entrepreneurs would be roped in. The course will be open to second year students from the faculties of engineering, management, pharmacy, science and law.
"For each sector, the entrepreneurship training would be modified to suits requirements," said Garimella. The university is yet to form a board and a proper structural facility.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Management has completed 90% placements, with most students opting for IT, ITeS (30%) and banking, financial services and insurance (35%) sectors. Top recruiters were ICICI Bank, TCS, Infosys, Mahindra Finance and Kotak Bank. Dabur, Reckitt Benckiser and Hilti India were first-time recruiters at the Nirma management campus.
