Renewable energy minister Pralhad Joshi on Monday said India has made significant strides in the renewable energy sector and with low per capita emissions the country is championing renewable initiatives and playing a key role in global sustainability efforts.

Speaking at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference in Germany Joshi said India was making strides in the green shipping sector, technological advancements, and international collaborations.

"India is the only G20 country to have met its climate targets ahead of schedule, despite having the lowest per capita emissions among G20 nations," he said.



Though energy security and access remain paramount for India, those have never hindered the commitment to energy transition on national and global levels, he said.


Joshi said that India's renewable energy capacity grew 175% rise from to over 208 GW from 75 GW in 2014.

Total renewable energy generated increased to 360 billion units from 193.5 billion units in the same period, marking an 86% increase.

Solar energy capacity in the country has also grown 33 times in the last 10 years, he said adding the International.
