High end D-Cinema shows phenomenal growth
While the first generation digital formats popularly known as E-Cinema has been in the market for a while, it is the higher end D-Cinema which has shown a phenomenal growth given its enhanced benefits and quality, despite a higher price tag.
India itself has more than 750 'B' & 'C' grade single screen theaters that use the E-Cinema projectors. However the higher platform of D-Cinema is fast picking up the world over with India getting its third D-Cinema theatre in Mumbai through Shringar Cinemas. The earlier two are in Chennai.
Texas Instruments through their proprietary DLP technology controls 99% of the D-Cinema projector market. DLP Cinema is also enabling the wider availability of 3D digital projection since DLP Cinema is the only one-projector 3D commercial solution, when used in tandem with either passive or active 3D glasses.
DLP Cinema projection technology has been exposed to millions of movie-goers, delivering clear, sharp, bright and accurate images to movie theatres around the world.
The total number of installed DLP Cinema projectors is now 3215, with theatres located in 35 countries around the world. Since May 1999, more than 350 movies have been released for screening on DLP Cinema projectors.
At the heart of every DLP chip is an array of up to 2.2 million microscopic mirrors which switch incredibly fast to create a high resolution, highly reliable, full color image.
DLP technologys chip architecture and inherent speed advantage provides razor-sharp images and excellent reproduction of fast motion video.
