For many organisations, HR technology was built one system at a time. Payroll came first, followed by recruitment, attendance, performance, learning and employee records, often from different providers, at different points in the company’s growth. Over time, what was meant to make HR more efficient can become a maze of disconnected platforms, duplicate data, manual processes and slow employee experiences. The real challenge is no longer having HR technology. It is making that technology work as one connected system.

That is where the Excellence in HR Systems Modernisation category at the ET HR Excellence Awards 2027 comes in. One of 30+ categories recognising the organisations reshaping the way people and businesses work, this category celebrates organisations that have rebuilt or replaced their core HR technology stack to create measurable improvements across the organisation.

Modernisation can take different forms. An organisation may implement a new HRIS or HCM platform, consolidate multiple systems, move its HR infrastructure to the cloud, strengthen employee self-service or rebuild the data foundations that support workforce decisions. What matters is not how large the technology investment was, but what changed because of it.

Consider an HR team where a simple employee request once required multiple emails and manual checks. After modernisation, the same process could move to self-service, with information flowing automatically between connected systems. Recruitment data can feed directly into employee records. Payroll inputs can be validated more accurately. Managers can access workforce information without waiting for reports to be prepared. Employees get faster, simpler access to the services they need.

These improvements are also what organisations should be able to demonstrate when entering the category. The focus is on measurable gains in cycle time, cost, data accuracy or employee satisfaction evidence that the transformation delivered more than a new software licence.

The category is open to any organisation from Indian corporates and global MNCs to PSUs, GCCs, startups, mid-market businesses, NGOs and family-run enterprises. There is no eligibility filter based on organisation type or size.

If your organisation has transformed the systems powering its people function, this is an opportunity to put that work forward, demonstrate the impact and have the story evaluated alongside other examples of HR excellence.
