While Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi’s decision to step down came as a surprise to many, closer home, another woman business leader took to social media to shower praise on the soon to be former CEO. Pune-based Emcure’s executive director Namita Thapar recently posted a one-minute clip of a talk that Nooyi gave at the 2016 Women in the World Summit panel, which taught her a lot.

In the video, Nooyi shared how women didn’t help women enough at the workplace. When women gave constructive feedback to the other, it was often construed in a negative manner.

“We assume that feedback from women means something’s wrong but if that same feedback came to us from men, we are willing to accept it. Or worst still, we don’t give feedback to women the way we should, even though we know they are not doing well. I think we have to change our whole approach,” she said.

“I take a lot of inspiration from Indra Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo. She is an accomplished business leader who describes herself as an ordinary woman born in a conservative and middle-class family. Being a woman and immigrant made it thrice as difficult for Nooyi to reach this position. But her mantra of working twice as hard as her male counterparts has set her apart. Her rise to power has lit up a fire in every aspirant and proves that nothing is impossible if you are determined.”

“The woman I admire a lot is Kiran Bedi, India’s first and highest woman ranking IPS officer. She set high precedents for justice and humanitarian services. I met her for the first time when I was studying at IIT, where she came to deliver a guest lecture. I spent a few hours with her and took her autograph. I was impressed by her outlook and approach towards life. She accentuates my faith in working through hardships and creating a mark for yourself in the world.”

“I relate to the journey of Mamta Kharab, the former captain of the Indian women’s hockey team. I also draw motivation from it. She was declared the best player of the Junior Asia Cup tournament in Malaysia where India won the bronze medal. She played a leading role in India’s victory in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002, India’s first in 32 years. She scored the golden goal in the final against England.”

“Stories of women changing the face of the society they lived in have always been riveting and impactful. One woman who I have always admired is Florence Nightingale. She was known to be compassionate, a driven professional and a wonderful manager. An advocate for hygiene and medicine, her wisdom and body of work is revered. Her leadership skills, compassion and foresight have always inspired me to become a better leader and influenced my thinking to a great extent.”

“As a child, I had read about the life and work of Marie Curie, the Polish-French scientist who coined the term radioactivity, and discovered radium. Her list of achievements is long, and so is the list of almost endless adversities that she had to overcome because she was a woman and born into a poor family. I learnt dedication from her. Winning two Nobel prizes, helping out the wounded in World War I, and naming the element she discovered in honour of her country [Polonium] — what a life. She lived and died doing what she loved. She was driven by a sense of achievement and love for scientific discovery, not by fame or money.”
