Paul Allen’s tuning with Bill Gates may have gone off-key at times. Not so with his guitars. Allen is well-known for his skills on the strings. And most recently, music industry titan Quincy Jones vouched for the Microsoft cofounder’s ability.

“You know who sings and plays just like (Jimi) Hendrix? Paul Allen,” Jones says in an interview with a culture website.

“Yeah, man. I went on a trip on his yacht, and he had David Crosby, Joe Walsh, Sean Lennon — all those crazy (bleep). Then on the last two days, Stevie Wonder came on with his band and made Paul come up and play with him — he’s good, man.”

Allen received his first electric guitar at 16, and, inspired by Hendrix, achieved a degree of expertise on the instrument.
