She has also featured on a powerful businesswomen list previously. Clearly, she is no stranger to august company.

She is the richest woman on a real estate rich list for this year. Crishna, sister of industrialist Jamshyd Godrej, made news a few years ago when she purchased Mehrangir, a bungalow in south Mumbai, that was formerly home to nuclear physicist Homi Bhabha. The price tag of Rs 372 crore, plus the legacy attached to the property made it one of the most spoken of real estate deals in the city.

A very small percentage of most rich lists constitutes women. In that universe, Shaw, India's first self -made woman billionaire, has long held an exalted position. The biotechnology leader lacked company for a while, finding herself in something of a mens club. That's changing though, for the better.

The Pepsico chairman, who is among the most powerful Indian CEOs at the helm of an international corporation, was on a business magazine's most powerful women list last month. From speaking out about women not being able to have it all to "sneaking health" into the cola giant's portfolio, Nooyi is a trailblazer.

The Indian banking and financial services sector boasts of to some top quality female leadership. But if Kochhar's presence on a business magazine's most powerful women in business outside of US in 2017 list is considered an indicator, then the ICICI Bank MD is first among equals. No surprises then, that she is one of India's highest paid bankers.
