Beyond the hat-trick: BJP’s Assam win marks a shift to solo majority power

From 60 seats in 2021, the party this time won 82 in the 126-member assembly. NDA bagged 102 seats, with partners Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front getting 10 seats each.

Congress managed to win 19 seats, reducing its tally from 26 in 2021. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, who contested from the Jorhat seat, lost to BJP's Hitendra Nath Goswami. Gogoi lost by a huge margin of 23,182 votes. Minister Ranoj Pegu won the Dhemaji seat by over 32,229 votes, while Cabinet minister and BPF leader Charan Boro retained his Mazbat constituency, defeating the nearest JMM rival by over 55,000 votes.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma won from the Jalukbari constituency. Two Congress leaders who left the party before the polls and joined BJP won their respective seats. Bhupen Kumar Borah won from Bihpuria and Pradyut Bordoloi from Dispur.
Congress, Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal had stitched a pre-electoral alliance. Raijor Dal was allotted 11 constituencies, AJP contested 10 seats, Left parties were given three seats, and two seats to the All-Party Hill Leaders Conference.
AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi lost from the Khowang seat while Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi was able to wrest the Sibsagar seat. He is the sitting MLA from this seat. Raijor Dal won two seats this year.

AIUDF, which won 15 seats in the 2021 election, was reduced to just two seats. Trinamool Congress won one seat.
"People brought back the BJP government as Prime minister Narendra Modi brought Assam in the mainstream," Sarma told reporters. "In Congress, no Hindu will be left; if some Hindus are left, we will bring them. I think only one Hindu MLA has won in Congress. Today Assam is a peaceful state and the safest state. People of Assam are convinced only BJP can secure the state's identity. This is why people reposed their faith in us."
