What Address Can You Use to Register
People without a fixed home can describe the place where they live or sleep, such as a park or the intersection of two streets as their home address, according to Vote.gov. However they can't use that description as their mailing address. But they can use a nearby shelter, religious center, post office box or the home of a friend or family member to receive election mail. So someone staying at a shelter or another community location can even use that address for both purposes.
However, as registration rules differ by state, so voters should contact their local election office to find out what applies to them.
Voting Without an ID Can Be Complicated
Most states require identification when people vote in person, although the rules vary. Those without an ID can ask their state motor vehicle office about getting an identification card, even if they do not drive. Some states offer free or reduced-cost ID cards to unhoused people. Organizations may also help pay the fee.

What If You Move Before Election Day
People who move after registering should update their home and mailing addresses with their local election office but many states allow voters to do this online. The timing matters too as some states require people to live at an address for a set number of days before registering there. Checking with election officials can help voters understand the requirements and avoid problems.
Check Your State’s Registration Deadline
Voter registration deadlines are not the same across the country. While some states require people to register 30 days before Election Day, others let registration even on Election Day.If you aren't sure about your registration status, contact your local election office and officials can also explain how to request a mail ballot and what identification may be needed.
Getting to the Polls and Returning a Ballot
Most voters cast their ballots in person but voting options also depend on the state as some run elections entirely by mail others let eligible voters request an absentee ballot.People who need ride can ask a local election office or shelter about transportation assistance. Those with limited internet access can call/ visit their election office for information. Homeless service providers can also find resources through the US Interagency Council on Homelessness.
