Most tax experts believe an extension is unlikely at present. Taxpayers should not rely on speculation and are advised to file their returns before the due date to avoid late fees and other consequences.”

Why has the ITR portal been smoother this year?
Experts say the filing season has been relatively smoother because income tax forms were released earlier and the due date for ITR-3 and ITR-4 was shifted to August 31. This staggered filing schedule has helped distribute the workload and reduce pressure on the e-filing portal during July.
