Aadhaar authentication for LPG subsidy: Will your gas supply be stopped if you fail to authenticate UID before October 1, 2026?

Domestic consumers of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) need to complete their Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) as soon as possible to qualify for refill bookings at the regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) and receive the government subsidy from October 1, 2026.

The authentication process aims at ensuring that the subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households.

Why has the government taken this step?

Linking each LPG connection with an Aadhaar-authenticated consumer is intended to prevent subsidised domestic cylinders from being diverted for commercial and industrial use, and to identify duplicate and ineligible connections.


Consumers who have not yet completed the Aadhaar authentication process have several options to finish it before the new rule takes effect.

Consumers who have already completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication will not have to repeat the process. Their LPG refill bookings will continue as usual.

What changes from October 1, 2026?

For consumers who have not completed their BAA, refill booking at the regulated selling price with subsidy will be enabled once the authentication is completed.

How can LPG consumers complete Aadhaar authentication?

Consumers can complete BAA through multiple channels. These include authentication during LPG delivery, visiting the distributor's showroom or using the mobile application of their respective oil marketing company (OMC).

How to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication

During refill delivery: The delivery person can complete authentication on the spot using the OMC mobile application.

At the distributor’s showroom: Consumers can visit their LPG distributor and complete authentication there.

On OMC mobile apps: Consumers can complete the process themselves from home using:

• IndianOil ONE for Indane customers
• HelloBPCL for Bharatgas customers
• HP PAY for HP Gas customers

Will LPG cylinder delivery be stopped for consumers who don’t complete Aadhaar authentication?

LPG is still available to customers who have not completed their BAA. They must register this option on their respective OMCs’ (Oil Marketing Company) digital channels, such as the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), WhatsApp chatbot, mobile app, consumer web site, etc.

However, these consumers will be supplied LPG at the applicable market price, without any subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability with the OMC.

What is the total subsidy on an LPG gas cylinder?

LPG is sold domestically for less than its cost. In September 2026, the implicit subsidy was approximately Rs 210 for every 14.2 kg cylinder while in June 2026, it had risen to Rs 721 per cylinder, according to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
