What matters just as much as the number is where that air goes: the fan has to vent outside, not into your attic, crawlspace, or wall cavity, where the moisture problem just relocates instead of disappearing. (In an apartment, the equivalent issue is a duct that dead-ends inside the building instead of reaching outside air, something worth flagging to building management if your bathroom never seems to fully clear.) Thus, those additional fifteen minutes of fan operation isn't a superstition, but rather a final touch needed to get rid of humid air in your walls and ceiling.

Wipe down your tile and glass while the fan is still running. Standing water on surfaces speeds up the same moisture problem, and airflow alone won't dry a puddle.
