In a statement shared on X, American Airlines said a technology issue briefly disrupted connectivity across some of its systems. The airline added that its systems were being restored, and flight departures had resumed as operations gradually returned to normal.
"A technology issue briefly impacted connectivity for some systems," the airline said in a statement.
"Systems are coming back online now and flights are departing again," the airline said. "We put a temporary ground stop in place while our teams worked to resolve the issue. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."
According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advisory, as reported by FOX BUSINESS, the nationwide ground stop was issued at approximately 6:29 PM ET, temporarily affecting American Airlines and its regional carrier partners.
The update confirmed that the nationwide ground stop had been lifted, allowing most of the airline's flights to resume. However, CLT remained under a localized ground stop as American Airlines worked to clear a backlog of delayed and grounded flights.
