Ariana Grande is stepping back from public life after the Eternal Sunshine Tour - Here's why she's taking a break

Ariana Grande is preparing to take a break from the spotlight after bringing her Eternal Sunshine Tour to a close. The Grammy-winning singer will wrap up the global trek with a 10-night residency at London's The O2, where her final performance is scheduled for September 1. The decision comes as online speculation and public scrutiny surrounding her health and physical appearance reportedly continue to grow. After months of touring and promoting her latest music, Grande is expected to step away from public life to focus on rest, recovery, and her personal well-being.

"Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour," a representative for Grande told People.

"She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.


"This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much."

Alongside announcing her break from public life, Grande has also withdrawn from the planned 2027 London revival of Sunday in the Park with George. The singer and actress had been set to star opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey in the new staging of Stephen Sondheim's acclaimed musical at the Barbican Theatre.

Despite Grande's departure, the 2027 London revival of Sunday in the Park with George will move forward as scheduled. Production company Empire Street Productions confirmed that the show will go ahead, with Grande's role set to be recast ahead of the Barbican Theatre run.

"Following this evening's announcement from Ariana Grande's team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George," Empire Street Productions said in a statement to the Press Association, as quoted by Yahoo.

"We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support.

"We wish her nothing but the best. The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, and casting will be announced in due course."

Grande has enjoyed remarkable success since launching her music career with her 2013 debut album, Yours Truly, earning three Grammy Awards and numerous chart-topping hits. Before becoming one of pop music's biggest stars, she gained recognition for playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon series Victorious and Sam & Cat.

More recently, she expanded her acting career with her acclaimed portrayal of Glinda in the film adaptation of Wicked, a performance that earned her an Academy Award nomination.
