Got an F1 ticket? Azerbaijan may give you a visa at the airport

Azerbaijan has introduced a temporary visa-on-arrival facility for foreign nationals and stateless persons travelling to the country for the 2026 Formula 1 race in Baku. Indian passport holders with valid race tickets or proof of ticket purchase can use the facility if they arrive at an international airport in Azerbaijan between August 25 and September 30, 2026.

The measure was announced in a decree issued by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 25. The decree allows eligible travellers to obtain visas at Azerbaijan’s international airports during the specified period.

Which documents are accepted?

Travellers must carry one of the documents linked to the 2026 Formula 1 event in Baku.


These include a physical or electronic race ticket, or a document confirming that the ticket has been purchased. Accreditation cards issued under Formula One Management or FIA rules will also be accepted.

Accreditation issued by the Baku City Circuit operating company is another eligible document under the decree.

Travellers should carry the original ticket or proof of purchase, along with their passport, when they arrive in Azerbaijan.

What if you do not have an F1 ticket?

Travellers without an eligible Formula 1 ticket or accreditation document will have to follow Azerbaijan’s regular visa procedure.

They can apply through the country’s ASAN electronic visa system or contact an Azerbaijani embassy or consulate. Applications can be made through the official ASAN e-visa portal.

When is the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix?

The Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be held at the Baku City Circuit from September 24 to 26, 2026.

Practice sessions are scheduled for September 24 and 25, followed by qualifying on September 25. The main race will take place on Saturday, September 26.

According to the official Formula 1 schedule, the race will cover 51 laps of the 6.003-kilometre Baku City Circuit.
