Manipur: Women stage protest in Imphal, demand immediate NRC update with 1951 base year

Women-led groups and residents held a torch rally in Imphal, Manipur, demanding the immediate updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) using 1951 as the base year. Protesters also called for the NRC process to be completed before the Census and raised concerns over alleged illegal immigration and people allegedly linked to Kuki militant groups. Police stopped the rally at Keishampat Junction. The protest comes amid discussions between the Centre, Manipur government and political parties over the proposed 1951-based NRC.
