The BCCI confirmed the change in the squad on Sunday through a psot on X.
Sudharsan has been ruled out after suffering an injury and had been undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Moreover, he did not travel with the Indian team to Sri Lanka and missed the ongoing three-day warm-up game against Sri Lanka Cricket XI in Colombo.
India are also dealing with several other injury concerns ahead of the series. Captain Shubman Gill sustained an impact injury to his right ring finger during practice and was rested for the first day of the warm-up match as a precaution, with KL Rahul leading the side in his absence.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah remains unavailable after failing to fully recover from a left knee injury. Aquib Nabi has been included as his replacement.
The Sri Lanka series will form part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, with India looking to strengthen their position in the standings.
