PM Modi greets Indian women's cricket team for clinching gold at Asian Games

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated the Indian women's cricket team for clinching gold at the Asian Games, and said the victory brings India its first gold of this edition of the tournament.

The Indian women's cricket team reasserted its continental dominance by clinching a second successive gold medal at the Asian Games, thrashing familiar foes Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at Nisshin in Japan.

"A splendid triumph for Indian cricket! Heartiest congratulations to our Women's Cricket Team on winning the Gold medal at the Asian Games. It was a commanding performance at the Games, marked by confidence, skill and wonderful teamwork," Modi said in a post on X.

The prime minister said the victory also brings India its first gold of this edition of the Asian Games.

"The team has made the nation proud and will inspire countless young cricketers across the country. Best wishes to the entire squad," he said.
