PM Modi holds ministers' camp for mid-term stocktaking of work

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired the first of a series of Chintan Shivirs of the Union Council of Ministers, with the two-day deliberations focused on governance and 'Jan Vishwas se Jan Aadhaar' as part of a mid-term stocktaking exercise and efforts to set priorities for the next phase of Viksit Bharat@2047.

The session, being held at Seva Teerth, began on Wednesday post lunch and will continue on Thursday, with ministers making presentations and participating in deliberations on the two themes.

The discussions cover stakeholder interactions, coordination with other ministries and state governments, policy initiatives and mechanisms for grievance redressal.

The broader themes identified include governance, Jan Vishwas se Jan Aadhaar, delivery, women, youth and effective communication. The remaining themes are expected to be taken up in the next round of the exercise on September 30 and October 1.

Union ministers including Hardeep Puri and Piyush Goyal are among the coordinators of the groups. Preparatory meetings of the groups were held earlier this week at the residences or offices of the coordinating ministers.

The exercise is aimed at taking stock of governance and implementation and identifying priorities and reforms for the next phase of the government's Viksit Bharat@2047 agenda. Inputs from ministries and departments, groups of secretaries, the Cabinet Secretariat and NITI Aayog are also being considered.

The Chintan Shivirs follow Modi's recent interactions with the ministers of state and Union ministers on policy and governance, including feedback on their engagements and public outreach. The back-to-back reviews have fuelled speculation among political observers about a possible Cabinet reshuffle.

Viksit Bharat@2047 exercise has been underway since 2021, when 10 groups of secretaries were constituted to prepare the long-term vision and short- and long-term road maps following stakeholder consultations.
