Modi hails J&K transformation on seventh anniversary of Article 370 abrogation

New Delhi: On the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the region has undergone a major transformation, with remarkable improvements in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, investment, empowerment of women and the Dalit community.

"Seven years ago, on this day, Articles 370 and 35(A) became history, marking a decisive new chapter in the journey of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh. Since then, the lives of the people of J&K and Ladakh have witnessed wide-ranging transformation. Infrastructure has expanded, opportunities in areas such as education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports have grown," Modi said in a post on X. He further stated that women and marginalised communities, "who were denied their basic constitutional rights for decades", have been empowered thanks to the full application of the Constitution of India.

When Article 370 was in place, women did not have equal inheritance rights, while Dalits were not getting the full benefits of reservation in low-end jobs, he said.

The Prime Minister said the significance of August 5, 2019, had increased further as 2026 marks the 125th birth anniversary of Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
