MLAs in South spent much less than EC poll limit: ADR

The average election spending of legislators in the south has been much below the permitted limit, according to a study by Association for Democratic Reforms. An analysis covering Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Kerala and Tamil Nadu shows that average spending of lawmakers from Kerala was the highest at 70% of the EC-mandated expenditure limit.

The study also found that 34% of elected representatives from these states* were facing cases of electoral malpractices at the time of fi ling of their election affidavits.
