Flood-hit Assam cries foul after PM Narendra Modi's aerial survey in Gujarat

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aerial survey of flood-hit Gujarat and announcement of a Rs 500-crore interim relief package has sparked a sharp reaction from opposition parties in Assam, which is recovering from floods.

Congress attacked the NDA government for not announcing any interim relief for Assam and said “the PM remembers Assam only during elections”.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, however, countered the allegation. “Some people are trying to spark controversy that Modi has visited Gujarat and not visited Assam. Are we showpiece that someone will come to see us,” Sarma said. At present, an inter-ministerial central team is in the state for damage assessment.
