Delhi SIR: What to do if you receive a notice, documents needed, deadline & other key things to note

Special Intensive Revision (SIR) notices have been sent to over 31.6 lakh Delhi electors. Voters who have received notices can respond either online or offline and submit documents to support their eligibility before the deadline specified in the notice.

The Election Commission has laid out multiple routes for submitting the required documents.

Online

The first step is to read the SIR notice carefully. It contains the reference number, voter’s name and EPIC number, assembly constituency, part and serial number, the reason for the notice, and details of the date, time and venue where the voter may have to appear before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).


After checking these details, voters need to arrange the relevant documents and submit self-attested copies.

The online response can be filed through voters.eci.gov.in. Voters need to choose the facility for submitting documents against an SIR notice, verify their registered mobile number using OTP/captcha, enter the notice reference number, upload the required documents and submit the response within the deadline given in the notice.

Offline

Voters who prefer the offline route can hand over the required documents to their Booth Level Officer (BLO). The BLO’s name and contact number are provided in the notice.

Documents can also be submitted to the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer or Electoral Registration Officer, or at the designated desk at the DM office. Voters should retain proof that their documents have been submitted.

Why these notices have been sent to people

The notices have been sent to unlinked electors whose names could not be matched with the electoral roll from the previous SIR. They also cover cases involving logical discrepancies, such as mismatches in names or unusual differences in the ages of voters and their parents or siblings.

The disposal of these notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29.

What documents can be submitted

The Election Commission has provided a list of 12 categories of documents for verification.

These include:

• Government or PSU employee or pensioner identity cards or PPOs;
• Documents issued in India before July 1, 1987, by government departments, local authorities, banks, post offices, LIC or PSUs;
• Birth certificates; passports; matriculation or other educational certificates;
• Permanent residence certificates; forest rights certificates;
• SC/ST/OBC or other caste certificates;
• NRC documents, where applicable;
• Family registers;
• Government land or house allotment certificates;
• Aadhaar, subject to the ECI’s specific directions.
• Voters should follow the requirements mentioned in their individual notices before submitting documents.

For those to miss the deadline

Responses must reach the authorities by the date specified in the notice. Voters who need help can approach their BLO or use the ECINET app to seek assistance or book a call.

The notice also makes clear that supporting documents must substantiate the declarations made by voters. False declarations or forged or fabricated documents may attract action under applicable law.

Critical dates to keep in mind

Election officials are expected to complete the disposal of SIR notices by October 29, 2026, according to the information provided in the RFA.

The final electoral roll for Delhi is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026.

If a voter’s name is deleted wrongly, or if a person wants to register as a voter afresh, the RFA says Form 6 can be submitted through the Election Commission’s Voter Services Portal, either online or offline.
