Complaint against Rahul Gandhi for jumping on top of police vehicle
ALAPPUZHA: A complaint was today lodged in a police station in the district seeking action against Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for jumping atop a police vehicle during his visit to Kerala.

Police, however, said no case had been registered on the basis of the complaint as prima facie it did not involve violation of rules or breach of security.

The complainant, Mujib Rahman, a local NCP leader, alleged Gandhi's action amounted to violation of Section 123 of the Motor Vehicle Act and wanted police to initiate action against the Congress leader.

Rahman also alleged Gandhi also misused the police vehicle and caused inconvenience to the public by causing traffic congestion.

The complaint was given to the Nooranad police station in Alappuzha district. Gandhi was in Nooranad yesterday to join a padyatra of Youth Congress.

With the party workers thronging to have a glimpse of him, Gandhi had jumped on top of the police vehicle and waved at the cheering crowd at Noornad where he participated in the padyatra for a while.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) and Congress leaders sparred over Gandhi's visit.

Daring the authorities to take action against Gandhi for "violation" of traffic rules, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said his acts amounted to "antics."

Home Minister and Kerala PCC president Ramesh Chennithala retaliated, saying CPI(M) was scared by the rousing reception Gandhi received from the people of the state.

Chennithala, who was with Gandhi yesterday, also denied his action involved breach of traffic rules or there had been any security lapse during his visit.
