Weather Tomorrow, July 29: Heavy rain alert for Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan & more states; check IMD forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another day of widespread monsoon activity across large parts of the country on Wednesday, July 29, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected over several states as a Deep Depression continues to move inland from eastern India.

According to the IMD, the Deep Depression, which was centred over north interior Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal on Tuesday morning, is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, south Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.

The weather system, along with the monsoon trough lying south of its normal position, multiple upper air cyclonic circulations and a western disturbance, is expected to keep rainfall activity vigorous across north, central, east and west India.

IMD says Deep Depression to drive heavy rainfall on July 29

The IMD said the Deep Depression will continue to influence weather conditions over eastern and central India through Wednesday. As it tracks across Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, the system is likely to trigger intense rain bands, thunderstorms and gusty winds over adjoining states.

The weather agency has also noted the presence of upper air cyclonic circulations over southwest Uttar Pradesh, northwest Madhya Pradesh and northeast Assam, while a western disturbance over the western Himalayan region is expected to enhance rainfall over north India.

Delhi weather tomorrow IMD forecasts widespread rain on Wednesday

The IMD has predicted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Delhi, Haryana and Punjab on July 29, with isolated places likely to receive heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected, raising the possibility of waterlogging, traffic disruptions and reduced visibility during periods of intense showers.

Rainfall activity is expected to remain active across the region for the next few days as the monsoon remains strong over northwest India.

Heavy rain likely over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha

Central India is expected to remain among the worst-affected regions on Wednesday.

According to the IMD, Chhattisgarh is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, while East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are also expected to receive extremely heavy rain in isolated places. Thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph are also likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

The weather department has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as intense rainfall may lead to localised flooding and disruption of road transport.

Odisha, Jharkhand and eastern India remain under rain alert

Odisha will continue to experience heavy rainfall as the Deep Depression moves further inland. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, while isolated places may continue to witness intense downpours.

Neighbouring Jharkhand is also likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday, while Gangetic West Bengal may experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. Rainfall activity is expected to remain active across eastern India through the week.

Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Himalayan states to receive more showers

The weather department has forecast widespread rainfall over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, East Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on July 29.

Heavy rainfall is likely over East Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, while thunderstorms with lightning are expected across parts of Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has cautioned that prolonged rainfall over the Himalayan region could increase the risk of landslides and temporary disruption to transport in vulnerable areas.

Konkan, Maharashtra and Gujarat to witness active monsoon conditions

Monsoon activity is expected to remain vigorous across western India as well. The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.

Parts of Gujarat are also expected to receive rain on Wednesday, while rainfall intensity may increase further later this week.

South India to continue receiving widespread rainfall

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana and Lakshadweep, while isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka and Telangana.

Strong surface winds and thunderstorms are also expected across several parts of southern India, particularly Karnataka, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Northeast India likely to receive heavy rainfall

Rainfall activity is expected to continue over the northeastern states, with Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura likely to receive widespread rain. Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Assam and Meghalaya, while Arunachal Pradesh may also witness isolated heavy showers.

IMD issues sea and fishermen warning

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh coasts until the morning of July 29 due to rough to very rough sea conditions.

Squally winds reaching 45 to 55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected over adjoining coastal areas before gradually weakening later on Wednesday.

IMD weather outlook

With the Deep Depression moving inland and multiple weather systems remaining active, the IMD expects monsoon conditions to remain favourable for widespread rainfall across much of the country on Wednesday.

Residents in areas under heavy rainfall warnings have been advised to keep track of local weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rain and follow advisories issued by state authorities.
